Abortion Recovery Awareness Month

April is Abortion Recovery Awareness Month, which was started in 2005 “as a way to encourage and extend healing opportunities to individuals and families hurting from an abortion experience.” (Abortion Recovery International)

We at the Church Awareness Project think this is a much-needed effort. Few people know that most abortions are not really “chosen” — most are unwanted or coerced. Many are even forced. And many are not aware of the obstacles facing those involved in unplanned or difficult pregnancies — or the pain and trauma suffered by many women, men and families after abortion.

We are planning ways that you and your  faith community can highlight the exploitation, coercion, abuse, pain and trauma that surrounds the abortion experience — and offer help and support to those who need it. So we’ll soon be posting more information about things your church can do.

Update: Abortion Recovery International, the founders/sponsors of Abortion Recovery Awareness Month, have a Calendar of Events and other materials available at http://www.abortionrecoveryawarenessmonth.org/.  Be sure to check out the Principles of Participation and sample Proclamation that governors can sign.
