Here are tools and resources that will help you tell your church, faith group and the community at large about your Project Candlelight activities. Whether you’re planning a prayer breakfast, a candlelight vigil, a Sunday sermon, a day-long event or a week of activities in your church or faith community, you can reach many with a simple press release or a letter to the editor.
Tell them that …
- April 23-30 is Coerced Abortion Awareness Week
- new evidence shows that most abortions are unwanted or coerced
- forced abortions are happening in our own community
- teens and women are at risk of unwanted, coerced and unsafe abortions
- women, men and families are suffering from serious post-abortion related issues
- the need for real help, compassion and healing is great
Let others know what you’ll be doing and encourage them to get involved. Others in the church or larger community may want to participate or help in some way. Still others may be in need of the help and support you are offering.
Click here for our previously published list of ideas and activities that you can do in your church and community to raise awareness of these issues. We especially encourage you to invite your pastor, minister, or other church or ministry leader to speak and preach on these issues.
If your pastor other church leaders will be speaking on these issues, or if you are holding other awareness events, remember to personally and publicly invite others to attend. The Publicity Kit featured below offers materials and tips to help you do this.
The most important thing any church can do is to have the support of those in church leadership, especially the pastor. This lets people know that they are not alone and that their church or faith community is a loving and supportive place where they can seek help and healing.
Encourage a focus on new evidence that most abortions are unwanted or coerced; that forced abortions occur in our communities, too (homicide is the leading cause of death among pregnant women) in addition to post-abortion issues. This important “pre-abortion” prelude is rarely reported, but it is an important prelude to abortion and post-abortion issues.
