Coerced Abortion Awareness Week

Sunday, April 8 – Sunday, April 15, 2018

Coerced Abortion Awareness Week began in 2011 as a way to:

  • Encourage pastors and leaders to preach about abortion and related issues,
  • Inform them of important new evidence regarding abortion,
  • Reach and save hearts, minds, lives and souls in the short- and long-term,
  • Expose abortion’s evil, exploitation, harm and heartbreak while helping those at risk or already affected by abortion,
  • Share evidence that most abortions are unwanted or coerced, about forced abortions in America, and about post-abortion issues,
  • Encourage outreach for pregnancy help, help for those being abused or pressured to abort, and post-abortion help, hope and healing,
  • Encourage pastors to share this new information with others and to preach in a compassionate and unifying way,
  • Warn parents about daughters or sons at risk of coercion or serious post-abortion issues, heartbreak or even suicide,
  • Encourage compassion, restoration and healing, while also making our churches safe places for individuals and families to talk about or seek help with pregnancy- and/or abortion-related issues.

Participants receive a free pdf copy of The Jericho Plan book and other resources that you can share with your pastor and other church leaders.

These resources will help them become aware of the many women, men and families in our church communities who are at risk of abortion — including exploitation or abuse to coerce them to abort — or who have already been hurt by abortion.

They will help remove some of the misconceptions about these issues that can prevent understanding, hope and healing.

Most importantly, these resources will help pastors and church leaders speak and preach about the abortion issue in a compassionate, unifying and healing way that will help their church communities.

Teens, women, men and families in our churches and communities are at risk or hurting.

Many in our own faith communities, neighborhoods and cities are at risk of abortion or have been directly or indirectly affected by pregnancy- and abortion-related issues. These issues include abuse and exploitation of pregnant women and their loved ones; unwanted, coerced, deceptively-sold or even forced abortions; and the physical, emotional and spiritual aftereffects.

Some families have lost not only an unborn child or grandchild, but also a daughter, sister, mother or friend to pregnancy-related violence or death before, during or after abortion. Mothers of all ages and from all walks of life have even been abused, threatened, tortured or killed for resisting an unwanted abortion. (See Forced Abortion in America for more information.)

We want our churches to be safe places.

We want our churches and faith communities to be safe places for individuals and families to talk about these issues or find help, hope and healing. Educating pastors and churches about pre- and post-abortion issues, including associated pain, loss and risk in our own midst and among everyday families, can help. This can also remove some of the shame, stigma or snap judgments that push some away from rather than toward our church communities.

Join the project and get your free e-book, resources and ideas!

If you haven’t already, sign up to participate in this project by entering your email address on the form to the right.

Your Church Leader’s Kit includes an electronic copy (no special e-reader required) of The Jericho Plan: Breaking Down the Walls Which Prevent Post Abortion Healing by Elliot Institute director Dr. David Reardon. This guide will help your pastor or preacher speak on these issues from the pulpit.

Let  your pastor and people in the pews know:

  • Your church community understands that unwanted or coerced abortions are common and unjust;
  • Your fellow church members who are facing pregnancy or abortion-related challenges, including those at risk or already hurt and grieving, are not alone;
  • They have the support of their entire faith community behind them.

Encourage your pastor or preacher to talk on these issues, during Coerced Abortion Awareness Week or any time.  Join your faith leaders and all the members of your church or faith group to participate in Coerced Abortion Awareness Week each April.  Many of these resources can also be used year-round.

Your effort will save the life, and change the heart or soul of more than one someone near you!

    thank you for all you do, I had an abortion in the year 1978, I am now 53. God helps me each day in knowing I am His. I have 9 children minus 1 child, 15 grandchildren minus ? grandchildren from my missing child-I wanted to keep. I have many of the after affects, shame and sorrow are the greatest. I await your reply.
    I was told at age 15, I shamed my family, I was not to tell Anyone-ever!!!!!!!!!!! My sister got pregnant 6 years after, they accepted her baby and she is now 27 with 1 son. I am happy for her, never talked about it, and my sister does not know, nor any one in my family. I divorced the father, I became drug and alcohol addicted, suicidal, etc. I am now ….still healing. Pray for me.

      Hello, I’m sorry it took us so long to respond to your post. Please know that you are not alone, that we care and we are praying for you. I hope that you have people you trust that you can talk with, who can give you support. If you haven’t already done so, please consider talking to someone at one of the many healing and support groups that are out there. It doesn’t matter how long ago the abortion was, or even if you have have already had some healing. They are there to listen and help. You can find more information about healing ministries here, or email us at elliotinstitute@gmail.com for more information.
